Day of violence continues in P.G.
A masked gunman on foot shot and killed one person and wounded three others late Tuesday, ending one of the deadliest days in Prince George’s County.
The shooting happened around 11:45 p.m., in Hillcrest Heights. An 18-year-old was killed and police said Wednesday that a 21-year-old was in critical condition. The other two victims are expected to survive.
Police do not believe the shooting was related to three separate slayings Tuesday, all which happened before 8 a.m.
Police think two of the killings, both in Fort Washington were related and connected to drugs. The victims were discovered with duct tape over their mouths, and a large amount of marijuana was found inside one of the homes.
Md. high court upholds handgun law
Maryland’s highest court has upheld the state’s handgun law, affirming the conviction of a Prince George’s County man for carrying a handgun in public without a permit.
The Maryland Court of Appeals ruled that two recent Supreme Court decisions — District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago — don’t bar Maryland from prohibiting people from carrying handguns outside their homes without a permit.
The court also said Charles F. Williams didn’t have standing to challenge the permit requirement, because he had not applied for one.
Md. man charged with animal cruelty
A Gaithersburg man is facing firearms and animal cruelty charges after 15 neglected pit bulls were found at his home.
Montgomery County police said animal services officers found dogs deprived of shelter and water and with open wounds during an inspection at 45-year-old Charles Copeland Jr.’s residence on Brink Road.
When officers executed a search warrant they found two shotguns. Copeland is prohibited from owning firearms because of a cocaine distribution conviction.
