Body found in trash still unidentified The body of teenage female was found in a trash bin in Columbia Heights, D.C. police said. Around 1 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the alley in the 1000 block of Fairmont Avenue in Northwest Washington for a report of a body in a “trash can,” D.C. police spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf said. Police have not identified the girl and have not determined a cause of death, police said.
Woman, 24, killed after passenger grabbed wheel
A woman was killed in a car crash after another passenger grabbed the steering wheel during an altercation inside the moving vehicle, Prince George’s County police said. Around 2 a.m. Monday, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am carrying three women was traveling down the 6700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Suitland when a passenger in the front seat reached grabbed the wheel, police spokeswoman Cpl. Erica Johnson said. The driver lost control of the car, and the car veered off the road and into a dirt embankment, Johnson said. The woman in the back seat, Natae Kasey, 24, of Forestville, later died. Police continue investigating.
National Archives worker sentenced in $1m scheme
A former National Archives employee was sentenced to 15 months in prison in a scheme to steal nearly $1 million from the government. James C. Whitson, 45, who worked at the archives facility in College Park, used his government purchase card to pay three businesses operated by his co-conspirator, Robert Caleb McCray, for goods and services that were never provided. McCray, 44, of Silver Spring, was sentenced to 15 months earlier this year. – Scott McCabe
