Former petroleum company CFO pleads guilty to fraud

A Montgomery County man has pleaded guilty to wire fraud for trying to embezzle nearly $3 million from a local petroleum company where he had been the chief financial officer.

Ernest Theodore Solo, 60, embezzled $2.5 million from the Chesapeake Petroleum Company from at least 2000 to 2008, according to his guilty plea.

Solo authorized or signed company checks made payable to himself, the company’s petty cash fund, or a bank to which he owed money, according to the plea, which was announced Monday by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod Rosenstein and FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard McFeely.

Solo faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. – David Sherfinski
