Judge: White House shooting suspect to remain held

The man accused of trying to assassinate President Obama by shooting at the White House last month will remain in custody pending trial, a federal judge ruled Monday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola ruled that 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez should continue to be detained, court records show.

Ortega-Hernandez is accused of firing at the White House with an assault rifle the evening of Nov. 11. The president and first lady were not home at the time of the shooting.

Ortega-Hernandez reportedly wanted to “hurt” Obama and referred to the president as “the anti-Christ” and “the devil,” according to court documents.

Man shot in attempted home invasion, robbery

A man was shot in the foot when two intruders tried to rob him outside his Colesville home.

Montgomery County police said two men approached the 51-year-old man after the man parked his vehicle in his garage on the 600 block of Cobblestone Court at about 12:20 a.m. Monday.

One suspect pointed a shotgun at the victim and demanded money, police said. The man got into an altercation with the two intruders and was shot in the foot.

The two suspects then fled without obtaining money. The victim was taken to a hospital.
