Father charged in death of 3-month-old daughter

A Greenbelt man has been charged with murdering his 3-month-old daughter, Prince George’s County police said.

On Sept. 3, Greenbelt police and Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Service crews responded to the 6000 block of Springhill Drive for a report of an unresponsive child. The infant, Zariyah Jacobs-Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police determined that the infant was assaulted on the 200 block of Castleton Terrace, in Upper Marlboro, and taken back to the father’s home in Greenbelt.

Police charged 22-year-old Jonathan Jacobs with first-degree murder. Jacobs is being held without bond.

Metro shooting self-inflicted

Police have determined that the man found wounded near a Metro station had shot himself.

The 32-year-old man was found near the Huntington Metro station last week after police received a call from a woman who was concerned about a family member who didn’t show up to a meeting at the Metro. The man was found in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his lower body.

On Tuesday, Fairfax County police said the man shot himself and then drove to the parking lot at the Huntington Metro. Police do not expect to file any charges.

Naked firefighter suspended

The D.C. firefighter who was photographed cooking naked at a Columbia Heights firehouse has been suspended, according to fire department spokesman Pete Piringer.

The firefighter, whose identity has not been released, has been placed on leave without pay as internal affairs investigators continue their probe, Piringer said.

The incident occurred after a retirement dinner at the fire station on the 3400 block of 14th Street NW, known among firefighters as the “House of Flame.” The celebration continued on to neighborhood bars, and some of the firefighters returned to the firehouse, where at least one stripped nude.
