Police are investigating a homicide at a Jehovah’s Witness temple in a Denver suburb where a man was reported to have fatally shot his wife and then himself Christmas morning.
According to Thornton police, the married couple had been members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation.
“The investigation is still active, witnesses being interviewed, scene being examined,” Thornton police wrote on Twitter.
Luis Sanchez, a witness living across the street from the temple, heard shots and then saw a woman lying on the ground outside, according to the Denver Post.

The bomb squad is looking into suspicious devices at the scene.
“A suspicious device found at the scene is being evaluated by the Hazardous Materials Unit,” stated the Thornton Police Department.

The police clarified that there are “no known threats” to the community.
In a news release by the Thornton police, the department said it “received a call referencing a structural fire at Kingdom Hall.”

According to first responders, it is believed that the suspect may have thrown a Molotov cocktail into the building, along with pipe bombs.

State Rep. Kyle Mullica (D) wrote on social media, “On a day when we come together as families and congregations, my heart breaks to see that someone has tried to tear that apart with a senseless act of violence. Believe me when I say this community will rally and come together.”
