Three teenagers have pleaded guilty to committing two armed carjackings in Logan Circle this summer.
Andre Gaddis, Terence Lofton and Andre Watson admitted their roles in the carjackings, which occurred within a three-hour span on the night of June 13 and early morning of June 14, in D.C. Superior Court.
Authorities say the first carjacking occurred when a Toyota Avalon pulled up to a Toyota Camry that was parked on the 2000 block of 13th Street NW at about 11:30 p.m.
Gaddis, who was a passenger in the Avalon, ordered the Camry’s driver to get out of the vehicle while someone else in the Avalon pointed a 9 mm pistol at the driver’s head.
Gaddis then entered the driver’s seat of the Camry, and both vehicles drove north on 13th Street NW.
The second carjacking occurred about two and a half hours later, shortly before 2 a.m.
In that incident, a four-door sedan pulled up to and blocked a Hyundai Santa Fe that was parked on the 1500 block of 16th Street NW. Gaddis acted as a lookout and Lofton approached the driver. Lofton pointed a pistol at the driver, and demanded that he get out of the car and give Lofton everything in his pockets.
The victim gave Lofton his wallet, bank cards and money. Lofton entered the Santa Fe and Gaddis returned to the sedan. Both vehicles then drove south on 16th Street NW.
The second victim found a police officer and described the suspects and vehicles. Another officer saw the Santa Fe about three miles from the scene of the carjacking.
When an officer tried to stop them, Watson, who was driving, led police on a high-speed chase throughout D.C. and Maryland for half an hour. The chase ended when the car crashed into a fence on the 1300 block of South Capitol Street. Gaddis, Lofton and Watson were arrested at the scene of the crash and police found a 9 mm pistol in the Santa Fe.
Gaddis, 18, of the 1400 block of Fourth Street SW, pleaded guilty to carjacking and carrying a pistol without a license.
Lofton, 18, of the 5300 block of E Street SE, pleaded guilty to carjacking.
Watson, 19, of Oxon Hill, pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a vehicle and a bail reform act violation.
All three are in custody and are scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1.
