Fourth-grade teacher allegedly drunk on the job
A fourth-grade teacher was arrested after she was drunk at school, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Laura Ann Collins, 43, of Leesburg was charged with being drunk in public. A staff member at Creighton’s Corner Elementary School in Ashburn alerted school district police Wednesday afternoon. The officer determined that Collins — a teacher for the Loudoun public schools for 20 years — had been drinking and she was arrested. School officials said Collins was in a training session and was not teaching students at the time.
No charges in DC9 death
No one will be charged in the death of a Silver Spring man outside the DC9 nightclub in the U Street corridor. The U.S. Attorney’s Office determined that there was insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges in the death of Ali Ahmed Mohammed, 27. D.C. police said Mohammed was beaten on Oct. 15 about a block from the bar after witnesses said he threw a brick through the club’s window. Police initially arrested the club’s owner and four employees on second-degree murder charges, but the charges were later dropped because the medical examiner could not determine the cause of death.
Stolen Audi involved in Metro carjackings found
Police have found the stolen Audi station wagon that was involved in two carjackings at Metro parking facilities. But police are still looking for the four thieves. The Audi was stolen at 9:30 a.m. May 20 from the parking lot at the New Carrollton station during a robbery. That wagon was believed to have been used in another carjacking and robbery at the Largo Town Center parking garage on May 25 in which a 21-year-old woman was shot. The 2004 Audi station wagon was found midday Wednesday in the District. Police still ask anyone with information about the cases or the four attackers to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
