Huguely to be sentenced Aug. 30

Former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely V is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 30 for killing ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love, a court clerk said.

Huguely, 24, of Chevy Chase, was convicted in February of second-degree murder and grand larceny. The sentencing date was set Monday morning in Charlottesville Circuit Court.

The trial jury recommended that Huguely receive a sentence of 26 years, and Judge Edward Hogshire can impose a sentence equal to or less than the jury’s recommendation.

At the court proceeding Monday, a date was also set for a hearing over any motions Huguely’s lawyers might file. The hearing, which could include discussions over a motion to retry the case, is scheduled for June 29, Clerk of Court Llezelle Dugger said.
