Trio charged in conspiracy to kidnap banker, child
A federal grand jury in Greenbelt has indicted three people on charges of conspiring to kidnap a bank employee.
Darrell “Shorty” Jose Carter, 43, of Fort Washington, Jeffery Edelen, 42, and Kendall Taylor, 40, both of the District, were charged with conspiracy to kidnap and use of a handgun during a crime of violence, in connection with the home invasion of a bank employee.
According to the indictment, the defendants, armed with guns, and wearing masks and gloves, forcibly entered the Prince George’s County home of a woman and her minor child on Jan. 13.
The indictment alleges that the defendants held the woman and her child at gunpoint and bound the child. The defendants planned to take the woman to the bank where she worked in D.C., and force her to help them in “obtaining money from her employer,” according to the indictment.
The defendants face a maximum sentence of life in prison for conspiracy to kidnap and a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years for the use of a handgun during a crime of violence.
No court appearance for the defendants has been scheduled.
