On this day, Feb. 17, in 1998, U.S Naval Academy Midshipman Diane Zamora was convicted in the murder of a rival Texas high school student.

The killing of Adrianne Jones occurred in 1995 while Zamora and David Graham were still high school sweethearts.

Graham, who was headed to the Air Force Academy, confessed to being unfaithful with 16-year-old Adrianne.

Zamora told Graham he must kill Adrianne.

Graham drove Adrianne to a secluded site. Zamora, hiding in the backseat, jumped Adrianne from behind and tried to snap the girl’s neck. Adrianne fled, but Graham tracked her down and shot her twice in the head.

While at the Naval Academy, Zamora told a roommate that she and her boyfriend loved each other so much they killed for each other.

Zamora and Graham received life sentences.
