One killed in triple shooting
One person was killed in a triple shooting early Thursday morning, D.C. police said.
Officers responded to gunshots in the 700 block of Harvard Street at about 5:40 a.m. Three adult males were found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Jose Rene Rodriguez Guterrez, 31, of the 3600 block of 16th Street NW, was pronounced dead at 7:44 a.m.
The other two victims were transported to area hospitals and treated for apparently non-life-threatening injuries. Police are withholding their identities because they are potential victims in the case.
Police investigate home invasion
Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting and home invasion robbery that took place in Gaithersburg.
At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report of shots fired near the Summit Crest Apartment complex. A 25-year-old victim was transported to a hospital with a minor injury and released. The victim had returned home to find two men in his residence. They fled, the victim chased them, and shots were fired.
The culprits are described as two black males of unknown ages, one with a light complexion and the other with a dark complexion. Both are approximately 6 feet tall and were wearing black ski masks. They were last seen running toward North Summit Avenue.
Police investigate hanging in D.C. Jail
District police are investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the D.C. Jail.
Josue Pena was found hanging in his cell at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, corrections officials announced.
Pena had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 9-year-old Oscar Fuentes, who was killed Nov. 14 while hiding with his family in a Columbia Heights apartment.
Officials attempted to resuscitate Pena. He was transported to the Howard University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.
