Teen gets 30 months for

attempted rape of child

A D.C. teenager was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for an attempted sexual assault of a 9-year-old.

Prosecutors said Marquette Jenkins, now 18, was 17 years old and staying with the girl’s family for a few days when he pulled the victim into the woods. Despite the girl’s screams, Jenkins pulled down her undergarments and tried to rape her, prosecutors said.

Lost inner tuber found,

arrested as a fugitive

A 37-year-old man who became lost while tubing down the Potomac River with friends was arrested after authorities found him and learned he had violated his probation.

Authorities in Maryland and West Virginia launched a search early Sunday after friends reported Bruce Carney, of Frostburg, Md., was missing.

Morgan County, W.Va., police found Carney at around 5 a.m. walking on a trail. He was wanted for being a fugitive and turned over to police in Maryland.

Drowning victim ID’d

Police identified a man who drowned in Woodbridge last week as 52-year-old Gregory Gilker of Occoquan.

On the evening of June 17, Gilker fell off his boat at the Belmont Bay Marina and became stuck under the vessel. People were able to pull him to the dock but were unable to revive him.
