A Montgomery County liquor control inspector was arrested on extortion charges after leaving a Mexican restaurant in Wheaton.

Thirty-eight-year-old Carlos A. Grajeda was charged with two counts of extortion of $500, Montgomery County police said.

Police said they received information from the owner of the Matamoros Restaurant in January that Grajeda had offered to “take care” of violations for serving alcohol to minors if the ower paid him $1,000.

Grajeda also allegedly promised to warn the restaurant of future Department of Liquor Control inspections.

Police said Grajeda accepted $500 from the restaurant on Jan. 30. He returned to the restaurant on Thursday for the remaining $500. After he left, officers pulled him over and found the $500 inside Grajeda’s jacket, police said.
