A Lorton man is accused of striking a pedestrian while driving under the influence in Ocean City, then fleeing the site of the crash.
Ocean City police said the crash happened at about 1:20 a.m. Monday, when 30-year-old Diogo Miller Facchini’s Isuzu Rodeo hit 22-year-old Matthew Cheswick as Cheswick was crossing Coastal Highway near 54th Street.
Cheswick, of Howard County, was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Authorities said Facchini continued driving and witnesses followed his vehicle until police apprehended him.
Facchini was drunk and speeding at the time of the crash, police said. He faces charges of homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, driving under the influence and other traffic offenses.
