The D.C. firefighter who suffered burns to 40 percent of his body in a house fire set by a serial arsonist has returned to work.
Charles “Chuck” Ryan III returned to his fire house at Rescue Squad 3, 2101 14th St. SE on Wednesday. Ryan was one of five D.C. firefighters who were injured when a roof collapsed during a blaze on 48th Place NE in April.

Ryan sufferend second- and third-degree burns over nearly half his body. Ryan remained hospitalized for over a month and was permanently disfigured.
Officials determined that the fire had been set intentionally, and created a task force of area investigators who arrested Maurice Timothy Dews, 27, for the fire that injured the firefighters and three others in D.C. and Prince George’s County. He pleaded guilty last week and faces 25 years in prison.
