Fairfax man accused of aiding terrorists faces new charges

A Fairfax man charged with aiding a Somali terrorist group is facing additional charges of communicating threats and soliciting crimes of violence.

The new charges were filed against Zachary Chesser on Monday, but court documents do not include details as to why they were filed. Chesser is accused of twice trying to travel to Somalia to join the terrorist group al Shabab. Chesser’s wife, Proscovia Kampire Nzabanita,

was charged Monday with making a false statement.

Ex-P.G. cop sentenced for bank break-in

A former Prince George’s County police officer was sentenced to more than two years in prison for orchestrating a bank break-in.

Eddie Smith Jr. drove Earl Blake to a SunTrust bank in Temple Hills last year and then gave him instructions and tools so Blake could break into an ATM safe, Smith admitted. When the alarm sounded, Blake fled, and Smith pretended to chase him and then fled himself.

Smith was also ordered to pay more than $10,000 in restitution.

Man who stole military pay gets four years in prison

A 27-year-old Capitol Heights man was sentenced to four years in prison for stealing $23,500 from U.S. servicemen.

Andre Grant admitted to accessing the servicemen’s payroll accounts and diverted their pay to accounts under his control.

When authorities searched Grant’s house, they found a list of U.S. Army personnel that included personal identifying information. He also admitted to stealing someone’s Social Security number and using it to open a credit account on which he ran up a $9,481 bill.
