1 dead, 1 hurt in barbershop shooting

 

Police on Wednesday afternoon were investigating shooting that killed on man and injured another in a Fairfax County barbershop.

Police said the shooting happened at 1606 Belle View Blvd. at about 2:15 p.m.

A 39-year-old man was killed and a 38-year-old man was hospitalized with injuries police said were not life-threatening.

Police are looking for an Asian man who is about 30 to 40 years old and 5 feet 5 inches tall. The man was wearing dark clothes.

DNA ties man to 2004 rape

DNA taken from a man after a conviction in Tennessee has tied him to the 2004 rape of a 16-year-old girl in Maryland.

NaJarred T. Walker is charged with attacking the girl under a bridge near a Frederick park on Nov. 1, 2004, according to Frederick police.

He allegedly threatened the girl, telling her not to scream, then sexually assaulted her. The victim went to a hospital, where authorities obtained a DNA sample.

Last month, police said, that DNA was linked to Walker after his DNA was entered into a national database following a conviction in Tennessee.

FTC clerk pleads to theft of $217k worth of equipment

A former employee of the Federal Trade Commission pleaded guilty to stealing $217,000 worth of office equipment from the agency, federal prosecutors said.

Harold Hughes, 58, of Arlington, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison at his sentencing on July 13.

According to prosecutors, Hughes was a supply clerk with the FTC from February 2009 to December 2010, and in April 2009 began making unauthorized purchases of laptop computes, DVD players, televisions and other electronic equipment.

He kept some of the items for himself and sold the rest for cash, prosecutors said
