Person killed by train in Gaithersburg A CSX freight train struck and killed a pedestrian in Gaithersburg on Monday afternoon, police and transit officials said.

The train, which was traveling toward Frederick and was carrying only cargo, hit the person at about 1:20 p.m. in the Chestnut Road area, said Officer Amy Daum, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman.

Daum said police are still working to establish the person’s identity, age and gender. It’s not yet known why the person was near the train tracks.

Woman found stabbed to death at skating park

A 46-year-old District woman was found fatally stabbed in the parking lot of the Anacostia Park Skating Pavilion, D.C. police said.

Police identified the victim as Sonya Lynch of Northwest Washington.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, members of the U.S. Park Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of Anacostia Drive SE to investigate the report of a female down. Moments later, D.C. police were dispatched to respond to a possible female struck. The victim was suffering from an apparent stab wound to the body.

Windows at synagogue shot with BB gun

Montgomery County police say windows at a Potomac synagogue and two nearby businesses were damaged by BB guns.

Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesman, said the vandalism was discovered at Beth Sholom Congregation, located at 11825 Seven Locks Road, shortly before 8 a.m. Monday.

Six windows were shot at and damaged, Hersh said. The Jewish holiday of Passover began Monday. There were no other signs of vandalism, Hersh said, and police don’t know the motive for the incident.

Two other businesses located about a mile away sustained similar damage, he said. Those were Robert Bernard Jewelers and Lacy Couture. Both are located on the 1000 block of Seven Locks Road.
