A German-born man charged with killing his socialite wife in Georgetown was found incompetent for trial Tuesday and is being transferred to St. Elizabeths Hospital for a full psychiatric evaluation.
Albrecht Muth is accused in the August strangulation and beating death of his 91-year-old wife, Viola Drath.
The doctor who has been treating Muth for the past several months in the Department of Corrections testified in D.C. Superior Court that Muth is “delusional” and takes directions from hallucinatory visions of the Archangel Gabriel. Muth, who had been fasting supposedly under orders from the angel, is eating again in preparation for another 40-day fast. He claims that he is “chosen” and that God will see him through, an attorney for the DOC told the court.
Judge Russell Canan ordered the psychiatric assessment and moved Muth’s arraignment to March 14.
