Marion Barry’s son pleads to PCP, pot

The son of D.C. councilman and former Mayor Marion Barry pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of marijuana and PCP.

Christopher Barry, 31 was arrested on May 28 after police responded to a domestic dispute inside Barry’s Southwest Washington apartment. As part of his plea deal, prosecutors will not seek a sentence of more than six months in jail. Sentencing is set for Sept. 27.

According to charging documents, Barry jumped from a window and escaped, but police found five bags and marijuana and a vial of PCP. Barry later returned to his apartment and was arrested.

In 2005, Barry was arrested and charged with assaulting a D.C. police officer, but that was dismissed.

Derrell Emmanuel Mason, 17, of the 3600 block of 13th Street NW, was arrested Monday at his home on charges of first-degree murder in the death of Leonard R. Smith-Matthews. Mason is in D.C., awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Police found Smith-Matthews, of Bladensburg, inside a parking garage after responding to a large fight in the 6400 block of America Boulevard. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
