Man posing as NFL player gets five years
A D.C. man who posed as an NFL player has been sentenced to five years for a fraud scheme that swindled area women, authorities announced Monday.

Maurice Carter, 30, told several women that he was a wealthy wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, and talked them into paying for hotel rooms, expensive meals and other items, all under the false promise that he’d pay them back.
Prosecutors said one woman lent him $30,000 during a longer-running scheme, while others gave him about $500 each.
Man arrested for making bomb threat
A Fairfax man was arrested for allegedly phoning in a bomb threat to the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park on Sunday.
The hospital was placed on lockdown after receiving several bomb threats.
Takoma Park Police said the caller, 23-year-old Nassem Darwich, did not hide his identity and officers were able to speak to him about the threats to the hospital.
The lockdown was lifted after a bomb squad inspected the hospital, police said. Darwich is being held without bond.
Pedestrian killed by garbage truck
A man in an alley in Northwest Washington was struck and killed by a garbage truck Monday, and D.C. police are investigating.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. in the 2900 block of Harvard Court NW, near 14th Street and Columbia Road NW, police said.
Cmdr. Steven Sund said it appeared the garbage truck was operating near the alley when it struck the man. The identity of the victim has not been confirmed.
Investigators have not determined what the man was doing in the alley, Sund said.
