On this date, June 6, in 1991, “Diff’rent Strokes” actress Dana Plato received a six-year suspended sentence for robbing a video store at gunpoint.
Plato was one of the TV show’s three child stars who had trouble adjusting once the 1980s hit ended.
In 1991, Plato moved to Las Vegas without a job and found work at a dry cleaners. One day, she pulled out a gun at a video store across the street from her store and stole $200. She was arrested within minutes. Singer Wayne Newton posted her $13,000 bail.
In January 1992, Plato was arrested for forging a prescription for Valium. She served 30 days in jail for violating her probation. In 1999, Plato committed suicide at age 34.
