Man killed in apparent D.C. carjacking

A 40-year-old Temple Hills man was shot to death in an apparent carjacking, D.C. police said. Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a shooting in the 4300 block of Fourth Street SE and found Arvell S. Alston, lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. A second person was found nearby. Both victims were taken to a hospital were Alston died. Police said the shooting might have occurred during a carjacking and were still investigating Wednesday.

Maryland board OKs

victim notification contract

The Maryland Board of Public Works approved a software contract to allow crime victims to get timely information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders. The $313,000 contract was awarded to APPRISS Inc., of Louisville, Ky. The software will enable information to be exchanged between the National Victim Notification Network and the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

T-Mobile worker bound during armed robbery Montgomery County police are investigating the armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Rockville. Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said a man carrying a long gun walked into store at 5401 Randolph Road, bound a female employee and demanded money and store items. The robber is described as a black male, 30 years old, 6-foot-2, with a thin build. The robber was wearing a black hat, a black jacket, and dark colored pants.

Guilty plea likely in D.C. court for Duke official in sex scandal

A former Duke University administrator is expected to plead guilty to trying to sell his 5-year-old adopted son for sex to an undercover District detective, court documents said. Frank Lombard was associate director for Duke’s Center for Health Policy. He was arrested in June after soliciting an undercover officer to have sex with his son. He’s expected to plead guilty Dec. 17, court records show.
