Montgomery County police are still looking for the man that robbed a Gaithersburg bank at gunpoint on the afternoon of Feb. 1. The robber walked into the Sovereign Bank at 481 N. Frederick Ave. after 3 p.m last Tuesday. The man pulled up a black mask to cover his face as he entered the bank, showed a handgun and asked for money. No one was injured. The robber left with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect is a 6-foot, 200-pound black man, approximately 40 years old with short black hair. He was seen on video surveillance wearing a black mask, tan winter jacket and blue knit hat.
Capt. Paul Starks, Montgomery County police spokesman, said there have not been any recent robberies in that area, and that the Sovereign Bank branch at that location has never before been robbed. He said he cannot confirm whether the suspect is thought to be involved in other robberies or incidences, but the suspect remains a potential danger to residents and community safety.
