Woman dies after Rockville crash

An Olney woman died on the way to the hospital after a Wednesday morning traffic accident in Rockville.

Montgomery County police said 61-year-old Patricia Greer Parks was driving her 2000 Chrysler Sebring behind a 2005 Ford Taurus on Rockville Pike near Old Georgetown Road and struck the Taurus when it was slowing down at about 7:35 a.m.

While officers were talking with the two drivers, Parks began complaining of pain. She lost consciousness in an ambulance and was pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said. Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman, said she didn’t know what type of pain Parks was suffering.

The Taurus driver, 41-year-old Ellen Gidharry, of Rockville, was taken to a hospital for observation, Innocenti said.

Boy, 3, fatally struck by SUV

A 3-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in Charles County.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office identified the child as Elias Masanaa Charles-Kabongo, of Waldorf.

Charles-Kabongo had been sitting in the car seat in the backseat of his mother’s car as she was driving toward her home at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told authorities that when the mother pulled over on the 10500 block of Sugarberry Street and briefly left the car to give a piece of mail to a postal worker, Charles-Kabongo got out of his car seat.

Charles-Kabongo then went behind the car, walked into the road and was struck by an oncoming SUV, authorities said.
