A large section of a street in Northwest D.C. collapsed Wednesday morning, sending two city employees to the hospital for observation, said District of Columbia fire department spokesman Alan Etter.
A 20-foot section of the 4300 block of Ellicott Street suddenly dropped about 2 feet around 10 a.m. while a department of transportation crew was collecting tree debris on the block.
The truck slammed into the instant ledge created by the drop. It was not immediately clear what caused the ground to sink so quickly.
Police and fire officials are investigating.
