Prince George’s County firefighters are still investigating the causes of two house fires this weekend.
The first fire, on the 7200 block of Mount Forest Terrace in District Heights, occurred at about 4 p.m. Neighbors called the fire department when they saw flames on the outside of the house. By the time firefighters arrived, flames had engulfed both floors of the two-story house and reached the roof.
The house was under renovation, though no work had been done recently and the homeowners had not been there for a month, said Brady. Fire officials do not know what caused the blaze. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
The second fire, in Accokeek, occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday and likely began in the two-story brick home’s garage, though firefighters have not yet found a definitive cause, Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said Sunday.
Damage is estimated at about $250,000.
Prince George’s County firefighters also battled two blazes Friday morning.
The first, at about 8 a.m., occurred in the kitchen of a College Park home on the 3900 block of Metzerott Road and was likely cooking-related, said Brady, though the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Damages are estimated at about $3,000.
The other fire, at about 10:15 a.m. at an IHOP on the 15000 block of Baltimore Avenue in Laurel, was most likely started as a result of some work being done to replace the building’s roof. Damage is estimated at about $5,000.
