Man assaulted in Oxon Hill

A man suffered minor bruises after being beaten outside an Oxon Hill home by a group of six or seven men on Sunday afternoon. Police say the group assaulted the man, described only as an adult male, on the front lawn of a home on the 1600 block of Birchwood Drive. Eventually the attack moved inside the home, where the group continued to assault the victim. Once inside, a dog attacked a member of the group. The attackers then shot the dog before leaving.

The only property taken was the man’s cell phone, police said. Detectives said the dog was “pissed off” but appears to be in good health and was not taken to a veterinary hospital. Police believe the victim and the suspects knew each other.
