P.G. man hospitalized after possible shooting
Police are investigating a possible shooting of a Prince George’s male found lying in the hallway of an apartment building Saturday night.
At 10:46 p.m., police were called to the 7400 block of 18th Avenue in Hyattsville, where a man had “trauma to his body.” Medic units arrived and the man was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a police spokesman, said police believe the man was shot, but medics still needed to make the official determination.
Rodriguez said Prince George’s County police originally reported the incident as a homicide, but the male victim’s condition stabilized; he remains in critical condition.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the District I Investigative Section at 301-669-2601 or the Crime Solvers tip line at 866-411-TIPS.
Malfunctioning fridge torches apartments
Several families lost their homes Saturday night when a refrigerator motor malfunctioned and set a Southwest D.C. apartment complex on fire.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and evaluated one resident for exposure to smoke after the fire was reported at 9:45 p.m. The flames originated in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment at 221 O St. SW, near Fort McNair, spokesman Pete Piringer said.
There were no serious injuries, although Piringer said, “It looks like several families were displaced as a result of this fire.”
Southeast electrical fire displaces family
A Southeast apartment fire rang up approximately $75,000 in damages Saturday evening.
The top floor of a three-story apartment building caught fire because of an accidental “electrical issue” in a resident’s dining room at 6:30 p.m., Piringer said.
Despite “moderate smoke conditions,” no one at 5010 A St. SE was injured, although one family was displaced.
“Smoke alarms saved the day,” Piringer said.
