A man was fatally shot standing at a bus stop outside the Southern Avenue Metro station Tuesday night.
The man was shot around 9:30 p.m. while standing at a bus bay just outside the Green Line station in Prince George’s County.
Metro officials closed the station for the remainder of the night, running shuttle buses from other stations to a nearby parking area to connect displaced riders, said Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato.
Authorities have not released the man’s name or a motive in the case. The shooter remains at large, Asato said.
Homicides on the Metro system are unusual, with typically about one per year. Last October, Demetrius Thompson, a 22-year-old father of two, was shot in the face multiple times on a Metrobus on Alabama Avenue in Southeast D.C. by two other riders.
