A woman was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for providing illegal silicone injections to women who wanted larger buttocks, The Associated Press reported.
Kimberly Smedley, of Atlanta, was sentenced in federal court in Baltimore and was also ordered to pay a $25,000 fine and more than $8,000 in restitution, the AP reported. She had pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to introducing a misbranded device into interstate commerce.
Between 2003 and 2011, Smedley performed silicone injections on customers in hotel rooms in the District, Baltimore and other cities, according to her plea agreement. She was paid a total of more than $200,000 for the injections.
Smedley told customers that the silicone was medical grade, but the substance she used was actually intended for metal or plastic lubrication, as an additive for paint or in furniture or auto polishes. After the injections, she used super glue and cotton balls to prevent the silicone from leaking out, according to court documents.
Former D.C. police officer Martin Freeman, who admitted to providing security for Smedley at the hotels between 2009 and 2011, pleaded guitly to his involvement in the conspiracy in April.
