13 arrested in prostitution sting

Thirteen men have been arrested in a Howard County prostitution sting.

Female officers went undercover in Jessup areas frequented by prostitutes and arrested men who offered them money for sex, Howard County police said Monday.

The men were charged with solicitation of prostitution.

Five of them were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement because they are thought to be in the country illegally.

Most of the men arrested are from Maryland, though one is from Northern Virginia and another is from Connecticut.

Howard County police said 48 men have been arrested in four prostitution stings this year.

Police probe Georgetown sex assault

Police are investigating a sexual assault of a woman in Georgetown.

A man forced his way into a home on the 3800 block of S Street at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday and sexually assaulted a woman, D.C. police and Georgetown University’s public safety department said.

The woman was not a Georgetown student.

At least a dozen similar sexual assaults have been reported in the Burleith neighborhood over the past three years. But police still aren’t sure whether the weekend assault is linked to earlier ones.

The windows of 16 vehicles parked on East Beech Road, North Filmore Avenue, North Kennedy Road, North Concord Court and North Cameron Street were smashed early Sunday morning. Nothing was taken from the vehicles, said Kraig Troxell, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Also Sunday, 11 vehicles parked at an auto business on the 45900 block of Old Ox Road were damaged. Credit cards and a GPS system were taken from three of the vehicles.

Troxell said authorities are investigating whether the vandalisms are linked. No arrests have been made.
