A former D.C. police officer admitted in court to falsifying certifications claiming that mobile photo radar equipment had been properly calibrated.
David Cephas, a 22-year veteran, pleaded guilty to second-degree fraud relating to his official duties as a police officer in 2008 and 2009, D.C. officials said.
As a result of his actions, 200 radar citations were dismissed and more than $17,000 in fines had to be refunded.
Cephas agreed to resign from the department in June and pay $17,550 in restitution to D.C., police said.
He was charged after an internal audit and subsequent internal affairs investigation revealed that deployment logs showing certification times for the photo radar equipment had been falsified.
