Bad time for a case of the munchies
Police in Elgin, Ill., say a 21-year-old man begin smoking marijuana while waiting in the drive-through line of a McDonald’s and got the olfactory attention of an officer who was in the car directly behind him.
According to a Chicago Tribune website, Jose Barrera was arrested at 12:30 a.m. Monday, and police say they searched his vehicle and found more weed in a small container. Barrera was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on $120 bond.
A very odd memorial
For most, Memorial Day is a time to honor this nation’s military veterans. But for one Texas man, it was a day to get caught dragging a torpedo-sized propane tank down a highway, the Houston Press reports.
Police are still trying to figure out why a man from East Texas drove into a resident’s yard, stole a full propane tank, latched it to his red pickup truck, and dragged it down State Highway 80.
According to witnesses — and there were many — the tank was full and the man was not trying to be discreet.
But I ordered the orange chicken!
The Savannah-Chatham, Ga., police department gets a lot of calls for help — but not always from victims of crime.
One woman recently called 911 to report that a Chinese restaurant got her food order wrong and she wanted her money back, the Savannah Morning News reports.
Police were dispatched to the caller’s home after she became disorderly. The newspaper reports that the woman wasn’t arrested, but could have faced a misdemeanor charge for calling 911 without an emergency.
Breaking and entering is thirsty work
If you’re going to get arrested on burglary and trespassing charges, you might as well get a few beers out of it.
That’s what one accused burglar in Florida did, when 39-year-old Trevor Ray Lofton downed a few beers from an outside cooler before using a hatchet to smash a side door and break in, the Ocala Star-Banner reports. The home’s owner found him sitting in the living room, examining items on the coffee table.
The Star-Banner reported that Lofton told police he was “looking for a place to stay and an unknown force guided him through a large forest” to the home.
