Officer injured in shootout A police officer is in good condition after he was injured in a shootout with a teenage suspect in Northeast D.C.

Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a house on the 700 block of Crittenden Street NE shortly after 5 a.m. When officers arrived, an armed 15-year-old boy was on the house’s second-floor awning and “ambushed the officers,” D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

Lanier said the suspect and officers exchanged fire, and one officer was hit in the shoulder, neck and chest. The bullet to his chest was blocked by his vest, Lanier said.

The teenager was not hit by bullets but suffered a minor injury that appeared to be a cut, Lanier said. He is charged with assault with intent to kill while armed.

Trooper killed in crash

An on-duty Maryland State Police trooper was killed in a crash in Howard County early Saturday.

The crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. on Interstate 95 near Route 32, in Laurel, state police said. Police said preliminary information indicates that Trooper First Class Shaft Hunter, 39, may have been pursuing a speeding motorcycle when he crashed into a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the highway.

The tractor-trailer driver wasn’t injured.

Hunter is a Marine Corps veteran who has worked for the state police for 11 years,.

Fatal crash victim identified

Prince George’s County police have identified the woman killed Friday in a two-car crash in Largo as 21-year-old Jennifer M. Jones.

Jones was killed near White House Road and Harry S Truman Drive shortly before 3:45 p.m. when her vehicle struck the car in front of her as she was trying to merge. The other driver wasn’t seriously hurt.
