Man helping stuck car hit by passing vehicle A Leesburg man was charged with driving into another man who was helping a motorist. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged Craig A. Vandusseldorp with felony assault and reckless driving. A man was trying to help someone whose car had broken down in the middle of the road Monday. When a car in the back of the line tried to pass the other cars, the Good Samaritan tried to get the driver’s attention but had to jump out of the way. He was struck in the legs, police said.
Plow operator survives
Md. garage collapse
A snowplow operator escaped injury when a part of the parking garage collapsed under him, Anne Arundel County fire officials said. The plow operator was clearing the snow Tuesday morning on the third level of the three-level garage in Annapolis Junction when a 20-foot-by-30-foot section where the snow was being piled for removal collapsed. All three levels in the area fell, but the operator was unhurt.

3 charged in motel rape
Three men were charged in the rape of a 20-year-old at a Super 8 Motel in Manassas. The incident occurred Feb. 3. With the assistance of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force and U.S. marshals, the suspects were captured within the past week. William Monroy-Cruz, 26, Suemener Padilla-Chavarra, 21, and Jose Segovia-Gaitan, 31, all of Manassas, were charged with rape, abduction, robbery and attempted malicious wounding.
Police investigating fatal shooting
Fairfax County police are investigating a shooting death in Annandale. About 10:30 a.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting at a home on the 8300 block of Little River Turnpike and found a man fatally shot in the head. He was identified as Nathan Smiler, 37, of the same block. Homicide detectives are still investigating. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
