Add Bill Gates and Jay-Z to the celebrities who have gotten D.C. police escorts, similar to actor Charlie Sheen’s high-profile ride last month. The Associated Press reported that records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show dozens of entertainers, celebrities and sports figures have received police escorts in the past year. After Sheen’s high-speed escort from Washington Dulles International Airport to DAR Constitution Hall with sirens and lights flashing came to light last month, police officials said the escorts were mainly reserved for high-ranking government officials and foreign dignitaries.
In the week of Sheen’s escort, police also provided an escort to the New York Rangers hockey team, The Washington Examiner previously reported.
The department is generally reimbursed for the escorts, according to the AP report.
