Appomattox shooting suspect indicted on murder, gun charges

The suspect in a mass shooting in Appomattox that left eight dead has been indicted on three counts of capital murder and six other charges.

Authorities arrested 39-year-old Christopher Speight Jan. 20 after a massive, daylong manhunt that started when police discovered eight bodies inside and outside of the home Speight shared with his sister, her husband and their two children. The four family members comprised half the body count.

The other charges filed against Speight by a Virginia grand jury included attempted capital murder, one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling and four firearms charges. Speight has been held without bond.
