Recent grads arrested after drinking on Wakefield High roof

Seven recent graduates of Wakefield High School in Arlington were arrested Friday morning after they were caught drinking beer on the school’s roof, officials said.

About 5:15 a.m., police were notified of people on the roof of the school at 4901 S. Chesterfield Road. Those seven — three juveniles and four adults — were apprehended at the scene, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

One of the recent graduates had tried to flee before he was captured by police, Sternbeck said. The suspect tried to fight a police officer and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The juveniles were charged with trespassing and the adults were charged with trespassing and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Sternbeck said.

On June 13, the high school was broken into and its second floor was vandalized. Police aren’t sure whether the two incidents are related.
