Crime rate declined last year in Prince William County

The crime rate in Prince William County decreased in 2011, police said.

The 2011, the crime rate in the county was 17.5 crimes per 1,000 residents, according to the Prince William County Police Department. In 2010, the crime rate was 19.2 crimes per 1,000 residents.

The rate is based on the incidence of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft. The total number of these crimes reported declined by 6.7 percent, police said, and the number of reports of each of these seven crimes also decreased in the county.
