Mexican crew pleads in $3.5 m meth seizure

Six men with ties to a Mexican drug cartel have pleaded guilty in the District in a conspiracy to sell large quantities of crystal methamphetamine.
Police in D.C., North Carolina and Georgia seized more than 50 pounds of meth, three firearms and more than $35,000 in cash.
D.C. police estimated the street value of the meth to be more than $3.5 million, which was headed for Washington-area neighborhoods.
The six men were all from Mexico and claimed ties to the Mexican drug cartel La Familia. They each face between five and 18 years in prison.
Gaithersburg man pleads to ID theft conspiracy
A Gaithersburg man pleaded guilty Thursday in an identity theft and access device conspiracy to obtain Maryland unemployment benefits.
Vivek Jain, 26, admitted to using the names of other individuals to apply for prepaid Visa debit cards. Law enforcement recovered 42 debit cards from Jain’s vehicle, and a computer file containing the identification information of about 1,200 people in Maryland. He used the cards to withdraw up to $170,000 in cash from automated teller machines.
D.C. head shops raided
D.C. police raided two hemp stores and arrested seven people on drug charges.
Officers on Wednesday night hit Capitol Hemp stores in Adams Morgan and Chinatown. They seized drug paraphernalia and about $3,000 in cash, D.C. police said.
Police have not released the names of those who were arrested.
