Reston bank robber eludes K-9, helicopter search

Fairfax County police are looking for the man who robbed a Reston bank at gunpoint, then escaped even as helicopters and K-9 teams scoured the area looking for him.

 

Police said the suspect entered the Congressional Bank, located at 1800 Michael Faraday Drive, shortly after 9:30 a.m. on April 11.

The man pointed a handgun at a 43-year-old bank teller and demanded money, according to Fairfax County police. The teller complied, and the man fled after obtaining cash. Police did not disclose the amount of money he obtained.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect was last seen heading toward Wiehle Avenue. A police helicopter and K-9 squad searched the area, but the man wasn’t located.

A Fairfax County police spokeswoman said that he remains at large. No new leads have been reported in the case.

The robber is described as a black man who is about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall. He has a stocky build and was wearing all black clothing at the time of the robbery.
