Group robs elderly woman of her bus pass

A group of young women attacked and robbed an elderly woman of her bus pass and then tried to flee on a Montgomery County Ride-on Bus, police said.

 

The girls were spotted attacking the woman around a little before 4 p.m. Monday in Silver Spring, police said. The woman was not seriously injured. A witness to the attack called police, who caught up to the bus at the intersection of Tamarack and Fairland roads and took the women into custody. No further details were immediately available.

 

 

Lookout in bank robbery that led to chase pleads guilty

A 27-year-old Burtonsville man pleaded guilty to armed robbery for serving as the lookout in a bank robbery that turned into a region-wide police chase and ended with police shooting one suspect to death in Montgomery County. Sharman Said guarded the door while his co-conspirator ripped off a Bank of America in Clarksville, Said admitted. They grabbed $23,471 before fleeing in a pick-up truck they later abandoned in Montgomery County while being chased by police. The other suspect fired at police and was killed. Said faces up to life in prison for using a firearm in a violent crime.

 

 

Sailor found dead at Fort Myer

Navy officials say a sailor was found dead in the Fort Myer barracks after the sailor failed to report for duty Monday morning. Officials did not release the gender of the sailor and said there was nothing suspicious about the death.

 

 

Four arrested at Sotomayor hearing

U.S. Capitol Police arrested four abortion protesters at Monday’s confirmation hearing for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. The first outburst came during an opening statement by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. Robert M. James, 48, of Virginia, shouted, “Senator. What about the unborn?!” He was charged with unlawful conduct. Three other protesters were arrested throughout the hearing.
