Alleged heroin smuggler caught at Dulles A man has been arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport after having swallowed nearly a pound of heroin pellets, one of at least a half-dozen such smuggling attempts at the airport over the past nine months.
Adekunle Adetokunbo arrived Thursday on a flight from Ghana, according to a criminal complaint. Authorities said he gave a “rambling statement” about why he was visiting D.C. and flinched when an agent touched his stomach.
At a hospital, x-rays showed foreign items in his abdomen and he began expelling pellets, which field-tested positive for heroin, the complaint says. Authorities say he had swallowed at least 446 grams — just under one pound — of pellets.
Police captain charged after taking teen to motel
A Fredericksburg police captain is facing charges after he allegedly picked up a Fairfax teenager he met online and took the boy to a motel.
Brent Taylor, 46, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities say Taylor picked up the 17-year-old boy in Fairfax and took him to a motel in Stafford. Officials didn’t disclose what happened in the hotel. Taylor was arrested after sheriff’s deputies found the boy walking outside at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.
Dentist admits to health care fraud
An Alexandria dentist has admitted that he billed health insurance providers for services he didn’t provide for more than four years, bilking hundreds of thousands of dollars from companies and taxpayers.
Dr. Tuan Vu, 43, pleaded guilty to health care fraud Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria. Prosecutors say Vu, owner of Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, bilked at least 10 private insurance companies out of more than $400,000, the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program out of $87,000 and Virginia’s Medicaid program out of $180,000.
