3 new magistrate judges in D.C.

There are three new judges in D.C. Superior Court.

Local lawyers Errol Arthur, Kimberley Knowles and Lloyd Nolan were installed Friday as magistrate judges.

All three have worked as lawyers in the District since graduating from area law schools.

Arthur, a native Washingtonian, most recently served on the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics. He stepped down when he was appointed as a judge.

He started his own law practice in 2002, which handled criminal, child abuse and civil matters.

Arthur previously worked as a staff lawyer for the District’s Public Defender Service and clerked for Superior Court Judge Mary A. Gooden Terrell.

He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1994 and received his J.D. from Howard University School of Law in 1998.

Knowles, of Bronx, N.Y., has been the deputy chief of the sex offense and domestic violence section in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. since October 2004.

She has also worked in the appellate, general felony, community prosecution and major crimes, and fraud and public corruption sections.

Knowles graduated from Cornell University in 1992 and from Howard Law in 1996.

Nolan grew up in Pittsfield, Mass., and has lived in the D.C. area for 15 years.

He has spent the past 11 years with the city’s Public Defender Service.

He has also clerked for Superior Court Judge Russell F. Canan.

Nolan graduated from American International College in 1988 and worked in sales and marketing for Nabisco and Kraft before attending law school. He graduated from the George Washington University School of Law in 1998.
