Illegal immigrant who burned senior to death faces sentencing

A 38-year-old illegal immigrant convicted of killing 83-year-old Lila Meizell by lighting her on fire in her Wheaton home is set to be sentenced Tuesday.

Jose Alvarado and his cousin Ramon Alvarado burned Meizell to death to conceal a check fraud. Meizell paid the cousins $120 for landscaping work, but they added a zero before cashing it. They were concerned Meizell would catch on to the theft, so they killed her, they admitted.

Jose Alvarado faces life without parole on Tuesday. Ramon Alvarado has already been sentenced to the same.
