Man shoots girlfriend, then kills self, in Gaithersburg Police say a man shot and wounded his girlfriend, then fatally shot himself, in Gaithersburg Saturday morning.

The shooting happened on the 400 block of North Summit Avenue at about 11:15 a.m., said Capt. Paul Starks, a Montgomery County police spokesman.

The preliminary investigation indicates the 42-year-old man shot his 54-year-old girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself, Starks said. The man was killed.

His girlfriend escaped from the home and called police, Starks said. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

District man slain in Temple Hills

Prince George’s County police are looking for the person who fatally shot a District man in Temple Hills.

Police said officers found 39-year-old Therin Martin suffering from gunshot wouunds on the 3200 block of Branch Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

D.C. man gets 50 years for slaying teen who tried to stop robbery

A 21-year-old District man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing a teenager who tried to prevent a robbery in Southwest Washington near Nationals Park.

Deangelo Foote was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court for fatally shooting 17-year-old Kevin Allen in an alley by N Street SW and Half Street SW in July 2009.

According to prosecutors, Foote had been trying to rob one of Allen’s friends in the alley and Allen came to help his friend. After the friend ran from the alley, Foote shot Allen.
