Man allegedly drops pistol after bothering kids

A 25-year-old Lorton man was charged with disorderly conduct after Fairfax County police say he put his arm around two young children after being warned to leave them alone. Vondale Wright is also charged with carrying a concealed weapon. After embracing the 7-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy, police said, Wright was escorted out of the Lee District RECenter. A retired police officer then saw Wright drop a pistol. With help from staff members, the former officer subdued Wright until police arrived, authorities said.

P.G. man sentenced for Virginia bank robbery

A 26-year-old Prince George’s County man was sentenced to nine years in prison for robbing a Commerce Bank with a gun, prosecutors said. Dennis Earl Ledbetter II robbed the Dumfries bank Oct. 23, 2008, taking $8,755 with his co-conspirator, documents said. Ledbetter served as the lookout and getaway driver as the other man took the cash.


Man killed in Old Town

An unidentified white man was killed in Old Town Alexandria. Police said they were called to the 600 block of N. Payne Street around 6 p.m. Thursday for a report of an aggravated assault. Upon arrival they found a man on the ground suffering from trauma to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. As of Friday evening, police had not identified the man and were awaiting results of an autopsy.

Intern arrested in connection with double shooting

An intern in D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham’s (D-Ward 1) office was arrested in connection with a double shooting that occurred Thursday in Columbia Heights.

Devyn Lamar Black, 19, faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.

At about 3 p.m. last Thursday, police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds near the Columbia Heights Metro station. The victims were transported to area hospitals. Their identities are being withheld because they are witnesses in the case, police said.
