A District Heights police officer shot at a sport utility vehicle in self defense early Saturday morning, police said.
About 4:10 a.m. Saturday, the officer was working a second job at a Capitol Heights nightclub when he saw a green SUV hit a car in a parking lot and leave. The officer followed the SUV onto Old Central Avenue, police said, and then the driver of the SUV disabled the officer’s car by ramming into it.
The officer then ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle. The driver tried to run over the officer, and the officer fired several shots into the SUV, police said.
The SUV fled into the District. Police do not know if the SUV’s driver was injured. The officer, a two-year veteran of the District Heights police department, was not injured.
